2025 Projects
The Sarasota Mobility Alliance is targeting 4 specific items for its focus in 2025.
Park-legs
Parks are already great places for cyclists and pedestrians - getting people to them is often a missing link. Target the need for parks and parkways to be integrated into plans for safe, multi-modal transportation routes. Goals include:
Map target park-leg opportunities
Research implementation process for each
Identify project allies and collaborate on proposal
Propose projects and identify funding opportunities
Destination Zero Advocacy
Around 800 pedestrian traffic fatalities occur every year in the state of Florida. The Sarasota/Manatee Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) adopted a safety action plan in February 2022 to serve as a strategy to reduce the number of traffic deaths in the area. SMA’s role as an advocate for pedestrians will be to develop more detailed knowledge on how our region is implementing its safety action plan, push on those responsible to dedicate resources to this plan, and to learn and share success stories from other regions of the country with our MPO. Goals include:
Push FDOT to adopt realistic statewide safety performance targets
Attend MPO meetings and provide citizen feedback on destination zero.
Hold our local municipalities accountable to the Safety Action Plan that was adopted in February 2022.
Research other community’s successful implementation of Vision Zero and look for opportunities for improvement.
Transit Advocacy
A reliable, comfortable, equitable, affordable transit system is key to sustainable growth in population without being choked by unchecked growth in accommodations for personal automobiles. Transit Advocacy Goals Include:
MCAT and Breeze Driver Retention
Contactless Payments
On-Demand accountability, reliability and fare equity
Transit Priority (signals, dedicated lanes)
Bicycling Commuting Advocacy
As a key component to last mile (or every mile) transportation, bicycle (including legitimate e-bikes, scooters, trikes, and other wheeled micro-mobility) should be encouraged as a healthier, less impactful way to move around with less impact to shared infrastructure. Goals for this year include:
Increase separated infrastructure
Extended hours on Legacy Trail
Higher visibility markings at conflict zones
